SMTP Email

The SMTP email module improves the delivery of email.

Plugin Module Overview - SMTP Email

The SMTP email module is a valuable tool that improves the process of sending emails from WordPress websites by using a Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) server, thereby ensuring better email deliverability, reliability, and overall email performance.

Step 1 – Setup:

Login to your website

Ensure WP Extended Pro is installed and activated

Navigate to the WP Extended menu item

Locate the SMTP Email Module

Switch the module on

Step 2 – How to use:

Navigate to the SMTP Email options and select the ‘Settings’ tab. Here, you must provide specific details to configure your email services successfully using the selected transactional service provider.

Please ensure you complete the following fields to establish a connection for your SMTP service:

From Name: Enter the name you want recipients to see when they receive an email from you.

SMTP Host: Input the hostname for your SMTP server; this is often provided by your email service.

SMTP Port: Specify the port number used for SMTP communications; common ports are 25, 465, or 587, depending on the encryption method.

SMTP Username: Your SMTP server login credential, usually your full email address.

SMTP Password: The password associated with your SMTP username, which may differ from your regular email account password.

Sending a Test Email

After you have entered the necessary information in the ‘Settings’ tab, it’s important to verify that your SMTP settings are correct. To do this, you can send a test email:

  1. Locate the Test Email Section: Scroll down to the ‘Test Email’ section that is typically located below the SMTP settings fields.
  2. Enter a Recipient Address: In the designated field, input the email address where you would like to send the test email. It’s a good practice to use an email address that is different from the one you’re configuring to ensure the message is received as intended.
  3. Send the Test Email: Click the ‘Send Test Email’ button. This action will initiate a sending process using the SMTP settings you’ve just configured.
  4. What to Expect: Once the test email has been sent, wait for a confirmation message. This is provided on the same page and will indicate whether the email was successfully sent or if there was an error.
    • If successful, you should see a message indicating that the test email was sent. Check the recipient’s inbox (and possibly the spam/junk folder) to confirm it was received.
    • If there is an error, you will see an error message detailing the problem. Use this information to go back and adjust your SMTP settings accordingly before trying another test email.

This test is crucial to ensure that your SMTP settings are correct and that your WordPress site can send emails reliably. If you encounter persistent issues, it’s advisable to review your settings for any typos or consult with your SMTP service provider for further assistance.

Enabling Email Logging

To gain better insight into the emails sent from your WordPress site, you can enable the logging feature. This feature records every email transaction, providing you with a detailed log that includes the status and timestamp of each email sent. Here’s how to activate and utilize the email logging:

  1. Activate Logging: Within the SMTP Email options, look for the ‘Enable Email Log’ setting. Check the box or toggle the switch to enable this feature.
  2. Accessing the Logs: Once logging is enabled, a new tab usually labeled ‘Email Log’ will appear within the SMTP Email options. Click on this tab to view the logs.
  3. Understanding the Log Details: In the Email Log, you will find a list of all the emails that have been sent from your website. Alongside each entry will be the status—’Sent’ or ‘Failed’—indicating whether the email was successfully delivered to the recipient’s server, and a timestamp showing when the email was processed.
  4. Benefit of Logging: Keeping logs of your email transactions is invaluable for troubleshooting and ensuring the reliability of your email communications. It helps you confirm that emails are being sent out as expected and provides a reference point for investigating any issues that recipients may report.

Remember to periodically check your email logs to monitor email activity. This can help you quickly identify and resolve delivery issues, thus maintaining the credibility and efficiency of your email services.
