Post Type Switcher documentation
Move content between posts, pages and custom post types from the editor. The content, author and dates come with it, so you don’t need to copy and paste.
Overview
Content often starts life as the wrong type. A news post that should be a page, or pages that belong in a new custom post type after a redesign.
WordPress has no way to change a post’s type, so the usual fix is copying content into a new item and losing its dates and history.
Plan: Pro. Requires an active WP Extended Pro licence.
Setup
- Turn on Post Type Switcher under Content Management.
- Choose the post types that can be switched.
- Open a post, choose the new post type and update.

Questions and troubleshooting
Is Post Type Switcher free?
No. It is part of WP Extended Pro.
Will the URL change?
It can. Pages and custom post types use different permalink structures, so set up a redirect from the old URL if the content was already published.
Are categories and tags kept?
Taxonomies that the new post type supports are kept. Ones it doesn’t support stay stored but are no longer shown.
What should I check after switching?
The URL, the template and any links to the item. Our guide to changing a post to a page walks through each one.
It isn’t working as expected
Check the module is switched on and its settings are saved. If another plugin does the same job, deactivate one of them. Then clear any page cache and test again. Still stuck? Pro customers can contact support; free users can post on the WordPress.org forum.
